On Saturday March 8 we are offering a free wine tasting with Ruggeri Corsini winemaker Loredana Addari from 3-5:30 pm.
Loredana and her husband, Nicola Argamante, started their winery in 1995, purchasing a small estate in Langhe: Monforte d’Alba, Italy. The estate is located within the Vineyard Landscape of Piedmont, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Today, this family run winery is managed by Loredana and Nicola and their two daughters, Francesca and Vittoria.
In the beginning, they produced traditional wines of the region including Dolcetto d’Alba, Barbera d’Alba and Barolo. Over time, they’ve added several more wines including reds, a rose and two white wines. In 1997 they began to export their craft to the US, and now their wines have spread across Europe and to Japan, Hong Kong and Australia.
To produce fine wine, one also must care for the environment in which those grapes grow. Some of the measures they’ve adopted to improve their sustainable footprint include:
- Use of lighter bottles (2006), reducing the weight of their packaging by about 110 quintals (about 1.1 tons) of glass per year for a production of 85-90 thousand bottles.
- Installation of a phyto-purification system (2003) that uses bacteria in the roots of plants such as reeds, cattails and sedges to completely filter and purify their wastewater naturally. This process is absent of odors, allows for the possibility to reuse water for irrigation and reduces their electricity demand.
- Installation of solar thermal in 2010 has reduced their gas needs for space and water heating by 80%, and photovoltaic panels installed in 2016 allow them to produce 60-70% of the winery electric needs.
- Vineyards are managed in a certified sustainable manner in compliance with European law.
